listen; read; learn; write; speak
Both "written word" and "spoken word" make us human. They make us unique; they have been in existence for centuries. Different generations across the world speaking different languages to one another, all in the spirit of being heard and understood. Indeed, language researchers such as Stephen Krashen (1976), amongst others, have created a compelling argument that understanding (comprehension) of language inputs of that language is effectively the only way to develop fluency in it. A child proceeses language from his caretaker for hundreds of hours before they begin speaking, and in a limited capacity, and later spend thousands of hours of comprehension before formulating independent thoughts and responses. To we expect that because we are adults, we can somehow accelerate this process?

Hello, I am Joe
I am a certified K-12 Spanish / Teach English Foreign Language (TEFL) teacher. I am also a lifelong learner, curious of everything. I enjoy inspiring every learner to appreciate each developmental stage of language acquisition & become confident communicators.
INterview to be on language teachers podcast!
Ask, "where am I?" (How many hours of exposure in the 2nd language)
Then, ask, "where do I want to go?" (What/with whom do I want to communicate?)
How am I going to get there? (What learning resources will I use?)
What is a realistic schedule for me to reach my goals? (What does a consistent schedule look like?).
I recommend a maximum of 10 minutes / hour should be spent on speaking.
The other 50 minutes / hour of language interaction should consist of listening/reading comprehension tasks.
